The Novice team enjoyed a very successful regular season, finishing second in their loop, winning the A Championship in the Norwood tourney, experiencing a great Night With The Petes and Future Petes game, being finalists in the fun Under The Lock Tournament, and capping it all off with the EOMHL League Championship.
The Otonabee Wolves Novice team beat Campbellford 5-1 Friday night to complete the sweep and win the Novice Division Championship!
It was a great team effort to cap a great season. Nate O'Brien got things started with a beautiful goal on a setup from brother Nick, while Bryson Cumming capped it off with a perfectly positioned shot late in the third. In between, the defensive battle saw great end-to-end action, with Nick O'Brien tipping the scales with another 3 goals (following his 4 in game 1).
The defense played especially well in both games by limiting scoring opportunities. Jack Endicott saved his best game of the year for the last one, while Nate (MadDog) Thomson was strong moving the puck in the transition game. Noah Vankatwyk, the anchor of the defense all season, was especially stout at breaking up the rush before it got out of Campbellford's end.
Centres Colby Wood and Ryder Murray played well in both ends of the ice, winning faceoffs, driving the puck to the Campbellford net, and supporting the defense in our end. Game one scoring star Paxton Weidenfelder (4 goals) played his usual strong positional game and made several good setup passes. Ricky Bevan managed to find the post and forced their goalie into his best save of the game, with both chances coming off of a strong forechecking effort.
Of special note was the stellar performance of Colton Loucks in goal. After a shutout in game 1, Colton held the Colts to only one goal despite being ill for several days. Such a selfless effort from a great teammate!!

Special thanks to Jayden Cumming for his great help at so many practices all season.
