2017-18 Otonabee Wolves Teams
The Otonabee Minor Hockey Executive has confirmed our teams for the 2017-18 season.  These are sometimes very difficult decisions as our registration numbers often restrict us from offering hockey at the representative and local league levels of play.  We consider the numbers of players in each age category and the expected competitiveness of the group. We have discussed and considered many options before making these decisions.

Tyke

There are 27 kids registered.  We will have a development team and a Leo league team.  The development team will play limited exhibition games against development teams from other centers.  They will not be playing in a league.  The Leo team will play against our usual foes –Douro, Norwood, Ennismore, etc.  An evaluation skate is planned for all tykes on September 19th.  Details will be posted on the Otonabee Wolves website.

Novice

There are 13 kids registered.  We will have a Leo league team.  Since this is a single team there is no evaluation skate required.  The season will start in early October.  Details will be posted on the Otonabee Wolves website.

Atom

There are 29 kids registered with 2 more verbally committed to play.  We will have a rep team and a Leo team this season.  Evaluation skates are being planned.  Details will be posted on the Otonabee Wolves website.  We expect that the Rep division will be split into 2 tiers – small centers and large centers.  This split will enable more competitive games.  This decision will be confirmed at a Eastern Ontario hockey meeting on Sept 13th.

Peewee

There are 18 kids registered.  We will have a Leo league team. Since this is a single team there is no evaluation skate required.  The season will start in early October.  Details will be posted on the Otonabee Wolves website.  Per OMHA regulation 3.5, any player wishing to play rep has 2 options: they can ask to tryout for the Otonabee bantam rep team, or can request written permission to attend tryouts for rep in their next closest center (this is Douro for most players – note that the first Douro tryout is Sept 9th).  Please contact the registrar to discuss or request either option.  We know that 18 players is too many for one team; once we see the impact of any regulation 3.5 moves we may need to balance our numbers to get to a reasonable number of players on the peewee team.  Moving some players to bantam Leo could be considered.

Bantam

There are 25 kids registered with 2 more expected.

Midget

As communicated on our website, we are not offering midget hockey this year.  All players are being released to tryout in their next closest centers offering midget hockey.

Juvenile

A rep team is planned and is being organized.

Note: The ice surface in Otonabee is scheduled to be ready on Sept 30th.  All evaluation skates will be scheduled in September in other arenas.  Details will be posted on the Otonabee Wolves website.
